of Wellness and Harmony

Have you ever felt frustrated, stressed, or at the point of giving up in your strides to achieve lifelong quality health and wellness? You are not alone. The social noise around us is loud and out of order. We can deconstruct the messages of the social noise and shift what has shaped our thoughts. Once we do that we can reconstruct our mindset; making health and wellness decisions easier. Are you ready to deconstruct and reconstruct with me? Let’s make the shift.

Messages We Receive

We hear messages from the time we are tiny tots that we are supposed to receive as truth. The messages seem valid and reliable. The messages come from family, teachers, mentors, and friends. We also get messages from what I like to refer to as, “the social noise” don don don. The social noise is in commercials, fads, trends, the system of class, gender roles, historical contexts, the “he said, she said” dilemma….and media of all kinds. More specifically, we get exposed to messages that shape our thoughts, views, and actions regarding health and wellness. Let’s discover A way to developing a wellness mindset that will have you Celebrating More Wins and Feeling More Harmony!

Physical Wellness is valuable but it is not THE way to growing a wellness mindset; nor is it THE way to living a quality life. For example (take this in), the social noise tells us (men and women) that we ought to move our bodies a certain way, eat certain foods (or not eat), and put our bodies through tremendous negative stress to be productive (no sleep, quick eats, and champagne treats). If we deconstruct this social noise we can arrive at a new definition of Physical Wellness. To reconstruct the way you decide how to engage with your Physical Wellness you can begin to think of it as an opportunity. Physical Wellness is finding a way to practice daily self care (meditate, draw, walk around the block - shift away from the once a month champagne treat mentality), putting quality food and drink across those beautiful lips, making sure you get to the doctor and go prepared with at least one question, moving your body to restore or improve your heart health, and skipping the toxins that come alcohol and/or nicotine etc. Shift your mind to go beyond the linear messaging (go beyond the social noise) that tells us how we achieve Physical Wellness by what we eat and how we move.

Dimensions of Wellness

Further, shift so far away from that space that you can see the other Dimensions of Wellness. Here is a quick summary of the remaining dimensions or Ways to a Wellness mindset, beyond Physical Wellness:

  1. Social – we are talking about  relationships (keeping those that add value to you, removing those that don’t) and volunteering

  2. Emotional – think giving and receiving emotions

  3. Intellectual – building and sustaining curiosity

  4. Occupational – finding joy in your work, hobbies, habits

  5. Spiritual – think the power of connecting mind, body, spirit

  6. Environmental – think nature and safe spaces

Are you ready to keep building a wellness mindset?

Mindfulness

Now let’s bring wellness and harmony together by adding Mindful moments into your day!

If you can walk through the day recognizing the Ways in which you think, act, and do these various components of wellness you will be able to Celebrate More Wins. You see, you will find yourself reducing waste at lunch, committed to learning a new word each day, setting aside more time to participate in your favorite hobby - and when you do that you will be high fiving yourself all day long! High fives for health and wellness. To add to that Celebration you (and I) can embrace that you recognize new Ways to Wellness and turn up the Mindfulness practice.

Having balance is fulfilling but do you have harmony? You can achieve this using Mindfulness. Mindfulness is a gentle and growing relationship with yourself in which you work to be so sincerely present in the moment (the one you are currently in); not letting the moments from earlier define, shape or control you (and your thoughts) in the present; and setting yourself up to leave the future - in the future -  as to remain deeply aware of the present moment you are given. You are given the present moment to live in, to enjoy, to be curious about, to offer grace and healing in, and appreciate the self love that abides there.

Practicing Mindfulness

You can practice a wellness mindset by developing in mindfulness strategies. Some strategies of mindfulness you may already be familiar with and a bit out of practice - like using your imagination for example. Using your imagination is a great way to explore the joy of your mind and how it can be an effective tool to give you harmony by returning you to your power. If you want to learn more about Mindfulness and how I view it...I’d be happy to elaborate. For now here is a take away that you might appreciate about Mindfulness:

  • recognize the value of self and others

  • interpret the level and priority of importance that your thoughts bear

  • constructively identifying stressors

  • learn AND analyze personal listening skills

  • create healthy environments that empower

  • optimize communication

Was this meaningful to you? Are you in the mood to invite a genuine person into your life?
